3 Tips for Work from Home Moms

Whether you’re a working mom with a remote position or you’re an entrepreneur with a home office getting work done can be a challenge. Personally, I have two daughters in elementary school. Between drop off, pick up, homework meals and family time getting 8 hours of work done is tough. Here are 3 tips for work from home moms to help you maximize your time and be more productive:

  1. Work a split schedule. Try working 4 hours during the day while the kids are in school. Start around 8 or 9am and work until noon or 1pm. Make all of your business calls, send emails and complete your core workload during these hours.Then complete your “shift” after the kids go to bed (hopefully by 9). Work another few hours completing the rest of your to-do list, planning, research, etc. This option allows you to get work completed during normal business hours, take a nap if needed before the kids get home and still take care of your mommy duties. Both shifts allow you to work peacefully without interruption.
  2. Start early. If you’re an early riser (or even if you aren’t) start your work day by 6am. The most productive time of the day is between 5am-8:30am. It’s quiet, no clients or customers are calling and the children are still asleep. People who start work before “business hours” often get more done in that short time than they do once the official work day has started.
  3. Plan ahead. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Map out your day and your week as much as possible. Having a schedule for your business is essential. Write a to-do list at the end of each day starting with the things you didn’t complete today. Use tools like Asana and Taskworld to assist in keeping track of projects, deadlines, etc.
